    Description

The Yashica 24 was one of a group of three cameras released by the manufacturer in the late 1960s. It was marketed as a camera designed to use 220 film, allowing 24 exposures per roll. In fact, like the Yashica 124 and 124G released in the same period, this camera could use 120 film, the standard medium format of the day. Although the film compartment has the admonition “Use 220 Film Only” it also has a label that indicates a “start mark” for 120 film. The camera has an 80mm
    f
3.5 Yashinon lens and a Copal SV shutter with a range from 1 second to 1/500 plus B. There is a battery powered CdS match needle meter that was activated by a button on the left side.. The crank advances the film when rotated clockwise and tensions the shutter when rotated counterclockwise. Mechanically, the shutter cocks and fires, the aperture adjustment wheel works smoothly as does the shutter speed adjustment. The focusing adjustment functions easily. The meter has not been tested with a battery, and the button for activating the meter is missing. Cosmetically, the camera is very good, with clean “sharkskin” covering w/o peeling or blemishes. The brightwork is in good condition with minimal discoloration in one trim piece. The black painted surfaces are also very good with only one area of chipping on the back corner. This rare and well-preserved camera functions in all respects except metering. It was tested with ASA 400 120 film in May, 2021 and examples of the results are attached.
