Description
The camera body in the photo is NOT included. Lens hood and cap only.New Feature!
I have hand-painted the inner surfaces of the hood with a newly developed acrylic paint that absorbs 95% of the light that falls on it. Because it is acrylic, it is water-resistant, but can be removed if you scratch it. I decided to go in this direction, instead of an enamel, because of its light
absorption
and very few people ever mess with the inside of a hood.
Though originally designed for the 6x6 Yashica A, this hood may fit other 6x6 Yashica TLRs. See the last photo for dimensions needed for the hood to fit your camera. This is a press on hood and will not fit lenses with the outer bayonet mounts.
This is for the model Yashica-A only and will NOT fit the Yashica-Mat, Yashica 124-G, Yashica 44/44A or other Yashica TLRs with bayonet mounts.
I am an inventor and designer with 70 US patents. I am always looking for ways to improve things. I own a lot of cameras, mostly film, and am always looking for someway to improve my photographs. This Yashica A is one of many TLR cameras I have owned (Rolleiflex 2.8F, 3.5F, Yashica-Mat and 124 G, Mamiya C330, Yashica 44LM and the Yashica 44A).
The one thing that always seemed to be missing was a lens hood for the viewing lens. Why is this needed? While it is most important to shield the "taking" lens to keep lens flare to a minimum, the "viewing" lens also needs to be shaded. This improves viewing and focusing, but also gives you a more accurate idea of the photo you are taking because even with a shade you could position the camera in such a way that there will still be lens flare. This dual shade will help you determine if you have flare, or how much to control "purposeful" or unavoidable flare.
I am sure I could have purchased a second hood for some of the cameras (but not for those with outer bayonets), but hoods are rare, expensive or unavailable. For that reason I designed and 3D-printed this hood and cap for my Yashica A. It takes about 3 hours to 3D-print the combination. As is normal for FDM 3D-printing; there may be gaps, protrusions and imperfections in the surfaces of the print (see photos), but none of these imperfections will impede shading of your lens.
